Beat Cafe is Donovan's first record in nine years. His last, the Rick Rubin-produced Sutras was issued in 1993 and was hopelessly misunderstood -- especially coming as it did on the heels of Rubin's first collaboration with Johnny Cash. This side, produced by the rootsy yet eclectic John Chelew who has worked with everyone from Richard Thompson to the Blind Boys of Alabama and John Hiatt goes right to the heart of Donovan's particular musical esthetic. The title on this set is significant. The instrumentation is spare, with drums by Jim Keltner, acoustic , upright bass by the legendary Danny Thompson, and keyboards by Chelew...

This anthology examines the less-explored corners of post-Otis Redding funk and soul from Memphis. Gathering insanely rare tracks sure to make rare-groove collectors froth at the mouth, it encompasses releases from such esoteric labels as BAR, Fretone, and Enterprise. From the gutbucket funk of Willie Tolliver's "Papa Killed a Chicken" to the soulful soundsof Willie Walker to a rarity from Stax's in-house bard, David Porter ("I Can't Tell No Difference"), MEMPHIS 70 offers a fresh view of the steamy R&B coming out of Memphis from the late 1960s to the late '70s.

This reissue includes all tracks from Amaranth (tracks 9-14). In memoriam Dorothy Ann (Dolly) Collins.
Considered a landmark recording in some circles, this was constructed as a concept album of sorts. The suite-like flow of Renaissance-period material (sung by Shirley) was linked by instrumental passages. Dolly Collins' intricate arrangements, executed with the help of David Murrow of the Early Music Consort, displayed her virtuosity on pipe organ.

The new phenomenon electro swing Bart and Baker self-proclaimed "oldest active DJs" (almost a century between them). For 5 years their evenings dedicated to swing moods have been winning audiences trans-generational and some people like Dita Von Teese, Marc Jacobs, Max Raabe. There are many DJs who play retro music in France and abroad, but Bart & Baker have probably felt since their inception in 2005, there was a public open to a sophisticated blend of different genres of "crooning" and the French variety, the sounds of big band and of course their world variations, hip hop or electro-swing...

Asylum authorities release Ricky (Antonio Banderas) out into the public, and he proceeds to demonstrate the error of the decision. He beelines it to the set of film director Maximo Espejo (Francisco Rabal), a wheelchair-bound lecher whose current Euro-horror film is about a hideously mutilated, masked muscleman. Ricky's an enamored fan of star Marina (Victoria Abril), a porn actress recovering from drug addiction with a 'straight' film; Ricky met and bedded her briefly on a previous escape from the looney bin. Convinced he has the solution to all her problems, Ricky kidnaps her, locks her in her apartment and sets out to prove that his love transcends simple fan adoration. His simple formula for romantic success is bondage and tender loving care in equal doses. Naturally, Marina's response is unpredictable.
