Raven presents on a great value Double CD, three original, innovative albums by the highly regarded group WALL OF VOODOO: Seven Days in Sammystown (I.R.S., 1985), Happy Planet (I.R.S. 1987) and The Ugly Americans in Australia (I.R.S., 1988). These unique albums have been long unavailable and are ripe for re-evaluation. Wall of Voodoo emerged from the late 1970s Los Angeles alternative scene with a unique blend of machine-age junk music and off-kilter pop-rock. Like Devo, Wall of Voodoo’s sound was always challenging and entertaining or as once described, “like classy Halloween music, scary but pleasantly so”. Featuring Stan Ridgway as front man, the group made a big splash with clattering, expressive pop songs such as ‘Back in Flesh’, ‘Call of the West’ and the unlikely hit single ‘Mexican Radio’.

As you can expect from an album the title song should be a highlight. Not true in every case - but this time by all means. When listening to Wide Open N-Way you're first immediately forced to believe that this is an american westcoast psych band. Accent-free vocals and a very cool straightforward sound with acoustic guitar. But then they are showing another second sight right away with a weird piano and guitar echoes dominated krautrocked interlude...

Crisis? What Crisis? is the fourth album by progressive rock band Supertramp, released in 1975. Album unfairly treated by critics, especially in the lyrics of their songs, but musically is perhaps the best managed.

As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls is a collaborative album by Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays, released in 1981. The title makes reference to Wichita, Kansas and Wichita Falls, Texas. The title tune clocks in at just under 21 minutes. It is one of the only albums where Metheny not only acts as both the lead and accompanying guitarist but also the bassist, as each track uses fair amounts of overdubbing. The track "September Fifteenth" is in reference to September 15, 1980, the day the American jazz pianist Bill Evans died. Metheny and Mays cite Evans as a main influence.

The sole album of this great, but underrated British progressive band was released in 1975 on small Retreat Records (owned by noted producer Derek Lawrence and excellent guitarist Big Jim Sullivan). This powerful but still unknown album LP was mostly inspired by early Genesis records, but some Yes and Camel influences were also palpable. The quartet offered varied, imaginative and beautifully-arranged songs (usually lasted between 7 and 10 minutes) with excellent and quite heavy guitar parts, inventive and truly amazing keyboards phrases, very complex and busy drumming and fine vocals. This memorable will definitely appeal to all fans of creative, progressive music. This CD edition was carefully remastered from original, analogue source and sounds great!
